Devlog 08: A Proper Announcement

Hey there!

For anyone that missed the announcement on our Twitter, I figured i’d also put it here and maybe add a couple things to it - to make up for the delay, so to speak.

So, Fist World Volga: Second Round is actually content complete! Yesterday we managed to overcome that one last hurdle that prevented us from completing the final frame configuration, meaning we only need to make sure everything’s working as intended. It shouldn’t take long. Hopefully.

For anyone just reading this or who may have missed the previous teases, Fist World Volga: 2nd Round is going to be a free expansion to the base corebook, around 15 pages long (we can now actually say that!). It’s going to add one new universal mechanic, the Firing Stance, as well as four new frame configurations, each with their own new, character-specific systems. Systems which, now that I don’t have a character limit, I can actually explain properly:

  • The first one is called Coyote, a chainaxe-wielding lightweight frame inspired by the Hatchetman from Battletech. For anyone familiar, that should mean a couple interesting things in terms of mobility and offense.

  • The second one, Hirdmann, is the obligatory drill wielder. Its gameplan largely revolves around pushing the opponent to the wall and wailing on them with said drill as they’re staggered. In fighting games, this is called “Corner Carry”!

  • #3, Syfu, is the all melee / no guns frame. Makes up for it by wielding a pair of pilebunkers and by being able to kick using Movement Points. It’s also the frame in cover’s foreground, the black and yellow one - a paintjob inspired by the jumpsuit of a certain martial arts legend. It’s not a fighting game without him, after all.

  • Last but not least, the other frame on the cover! That one is…special. Technically, it’s a guest character - although the guest himself has no game of his own. It wields a chain whip, a railgun and a livery of dubious taste. Can you feel the storm?

So yeah, hopefully we’ll be able to wrap up testing as soon as possible! Despite the hiccups here and there, working on these was a blast - and we certainly hope you have as much fun trying them as we’ve had making them.

See you next devlog!

-Matt
